2019, What a year!!

Before I fully get into it, click play on the video below to see a 90-second snapshot of why 2019 was probably my favorite year to date as a Yorkshire wedding photographer. Don’t panic if the images go past too fast, they are featured below in all their glory.

Right then, what is this all about?

Every year I like to do an end of year round-up, as a kind of sign off to the season I’ve just finished. Selecting these 150 images wasn’t easy. There are so many more I could include, but each image here speaks personally to me as a creative wedding photographer. There are beautiful portraits of couples completely and utterly in love. There are events that naturally happen during the course of a wedding day, captured slightly different from how you would normally see them. And then there are some outright great moments of great people having a great time. Most importantly, however, each image tells it’s own little story and stands alone without the need for any explanation or description and it’s this element that I feel I have worked my hardest at all year. A wedding day to me is made up of a collection of these storytelling images that show you how people truly felt in that single moment.

So on to the couples whose weddings I have captured. I feel it is only right to thank you all! You have trusted me and my slightly crazy ways implicitly with the most important day of your lives and for that, I am truly grateful. Getting to know you all is the heart of what I do and I feel like i’ve just gained lots of best friends! Every single wedding was amazing in its own unique way and I love you all.

I’ve been lucky enough to shoot some amazing weddings at some truly stunning venues, not only in Yorkshire but all over the UK including over the Pennines to Lancashire, up north in Scotland and even on the beautiful Greek island of Corfu. Listing all the venues would be a waste of time but special mentions must go out to the lovely staff at The Wellbeing Farm, Denton Hall & Hornington Manor who all now know me well. They always go above and beyond to look after me, keep me hydrated and make sure there is time for my creativity. Thank you!

Thanks too to Brad, Alice, Joe & Ben. You not only captured some truly stunning images as my second photographers but you also gave it everything all day long and really embodied my way of shooting, which I know isn’t the easiest thing to do!

I must also give a massive shout out to my main man, Sam of Moss Wedding Films. We’ve worked together loads this year and although there are lots of other amazing videographers out there, he is simply the best to work with. We both aim for exactly the same thing and push each other to get it!!

Finally, I think it’s pretty safe to say 2019 has well and truly flown by for me. In December 2018 a little whirlwind came into the Hand family in the shape of Dexter and myself, Kerrie & Darice have spent all year adjusting and getting used to our little man. Now 1-year-old and affectionately known as Dexter the Destroyer or DD for short, he’s amazing and so full of life. Darice has become an incredibly loving and caring big sister and Kerrie deserves a medal for somehow managing to keep them, me and the house all in order. I couldn’t do any of this without their support, hugs, and love and this whole venture into wedding photography started because of them, so as I say every year, thank you fam!

Technically 2019 has been my third full year as a professional wedding photographer and I entered it way back in January with the mindset almost like a musician approaching the third difficult album, either nail it or you’re gone for good! I wanted to take everything I had learned over the past few years, use it and really push myself to see what I could capture for my couples, both naturally and creatively. I feel I’ve done that and then some and this collection of images is just a little snippet. I’m going to spend the next couple of months blogging some of these amazing wedding stories properly, so watch this space!

2019 you have been amazing and I can’t wait for 2020
